<p><strong>Adults: </strong><br />
1-2 tablets, 3 times a day.<br />

Children: </strong><br />
Up to 2 years old: Half a tablet 3 or 4 times a day.<br />
Between 2 and 8 years old: One tablet 3-4 times a day.</p>
<p><strong>Dosage regime</strong><br />
You are recommended to take FURANTOINA during meals or with a glass of cold milk and never on an empty stomach.<br />
Given FURANTOINA’s superior absorption in relation to macro-crystalline products or those with delayed break-up, it is hardly ever necessary to surpass the doses indicated above.</p>

<strong>Nitrofurantoin. Urinary chemotherapy treatment</strong></p>
<p>FURANTOINA, with the principal ingredient of nitrofurantoin is a chemotherapy treatment, specifically for chronic or acute bacterial infections in the urinary tract.</p>
<p>It is effective against germs which are habitually resistant to antibiotics and sulfamides, like the generics Proteus and Pseudomonas and does not provoke the apparition of resistant strains.</p>
<h4>Composition</h4>
<p>Each tablet contains:<br />
Principal ingredient:<br />
Nitrofurantoin (DCI)............50mg</p>
<h4>Excipients:</h4>
<p>Povidone, carboxymethyl starch (Type A), dehydrated calcium hydrogen phosphate, talc and magnesium stearate.</p>
<h4>Indications</h4>
<p>All bacterial infections of the urinary-bladder tract caused by germs sensitive to nitrofurantoin: pyelitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, prostatitis, uretritis.<br />
Chemo-prophylaxis in urinary explorations or interventions.</p>
<h4>Dosage</h4>
<p><strong>Adults: </strong>            1-2 tablets, 3 times a day.<br />
<strong>Children: </strong>        Up to 2 years old: Half a tablet 3 or 4 times a day.<br />
Between 2 and 8 years old: One tablet 3-4 times a day.</p>

<h4>Counter indications</h4>
<p>Serious hepatic or renal insufficiency.</p>
<h4>Incompatibilities</h4>
<p>Acidifiers of the urinary pH increase the digestive absorption of nitrofurantoin, whereas alkalizing agents and nalidixic acid decrease it.</p>
<h4>Secondary effects</h4>
<p>Can provoke nausea and vomiting, which can be avoided by taking this medicine with meals. Occasionally allergic reactions and polyneuritis disorders (these during extended treatments) have been reported, these give way when medication is stopped.</p>
<h4>Intoxication and its treatment</h4>
<p>Acute intoxication with this medical speciality is due to its elevated therapeutic index. In case of accidental intoxication, which can only be produced by ingesting large doses, the general norms for  the rapid elimination of medicines will be followed, (stomach wash and increase in urinary output).</p>
