MAGIÓN

COMPOSITION PER TABLET

Magaldrate (D.C.I)...................................450mg
Excipients: Manitol, sodium carboxymethyl (type A), menthol, anhydrous colloidal sodium silica, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, talc, sodium saccharin.

PROPERTIES

MAGIÓN contains magaldrate as its only active ingredient.
Magaldrate is a complex molecule formed from mixed reticules of magnesium-aluminium hydroxide. This structure gives magaldrate the following characteristics: A high hyperacidity neutralization capacity, whatever the quantity of acid; prolonged normalization of gastric PH to between 3 and 5, levels at which excess acid effects are not produced; high fixation capacity for bile acid and lycolecithin, with consequent inactivation of duodenal-gastric reflux and protection of the mucous membrane. MAGIÓN has very low sodium content (0.01 mEq or 0.22mg per tablet), which means it can be administered to patients with hypertension.

INDICATIONS

Hyperacidity and heartburn. Gastritis and peptic esophagitis. Symptomatic treatment of the acidity associated with peptic ulcers. Hiatal hernia.

DOSIFICATION

Unless advised otherwise by medical professional.
1 or 2 tablets, preferably 1 or 2 hours after meals and before bed. This dose can be increased to up to 20 tablets per day, in cases of gastroduodenal ulcers.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

MAGIÓN tablets can be swallowed, sucked until they dissolve or chewed.

COUNTERINDICATIONS

Severe kidney insufficiency.

WARNING

IMPORTANT FOR WOMEN
If you are pregnant, or believe that you may be so, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. The consumption of medication during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or foetus, and must be monitored by your doctor.
If you are breast feeding, consult your doctor before taking this product.

INTERACTIONS

Reduces the absorption of tetracyclines, isoniazid, digoxine, phenytoin, iron salts and vitamins. For this reason MAGIÓN should not be taken for 2 hours before or after these drugs.

SECONDARY EFFECTS

Diarrhoea or constipation. Prolonged treatments may produce hyponatremia, hypopotassemia and hypophasphatemia.

INTOXICATION AND TREATMENT

MAGIÓN is practically atoxic. Due to the antacid’s insolubility, the excess which doesn’t react with the gastric acid is not absorbed by the body, and is eliminated unaltered.
