 ADVICE ON DRINKING CITO-ORAL SPORT

An athlete’s strategy for maintaining hydration should be personalized, according to parameters like the type, duration and intensity of the sport, as well as the metabolism of the individual. In any case, some general rules can be offered for an athlete’s liquid consumption.

Before exercise: It is recommended that an athlete drinks at least 500ml 2 hours before starting the exercise, in order to provide adequate hydration and allow time to excrete the excess liquid ingested.

During exercise: In this phase hydration should start early and continue at regular intervals. The athlete should attempt to consume liquid with velocity sufficient to replace all the water lost through sweat. In general 150-200ml every 15-20 min is considered sufficient, with minimal interruption to the physical exercise. During this period, as well as rehydrating, the introduction of sugars permits increased performance and delays the onset of fatigue.

Immediately after exercise: This phase of hydration can be a critical factor in recuperation between training sessions or competitions. Data exists indicating that the athlete should replace 1.5 times the amount of weight lost during physical exercise in the 6 hours immediately following the session (for example, if 1kg of weight is lost, 1.5l of liquid should be consumed in the 6 hours after finishing the exercise)

USE OF PRODUCT

Dissolve a sachet of Cito-oral Sport in a half a litre of water and stir. It is recommended that the temperature is lower than room temperature, between 15-22 C. Once the solution is prepared it can be kept refrigerated for 24 hours.

Cito-oral Sport

Hydration and rapid energy for sportspeople.

When we exercise, the evaporation of sweat from the surface of our skin helps to regulate the temperature of the body. Another consequence of sweating is the loss of liquids and electrolytes which are essential to our organism; when the equivalent of 1-2% of  the athlete’s bodyweight is lost, physiological processes begin to change. This level of dehydration is frequent during intense exercise, but is easy to prevent with adequate fluid ingestion before, during and after exercise. This is why the use of specialized sports drinks to achieve sufficient hydration is recommendable.

COMPOSITION

Cito-oral sport is an isotonic drink, composed of balanced proportions of sugars and electrolytes, designed to provide the athlete with rapid and complete hydration, as well as a pleasant refreshing sensation. It also supplies a combination of sugars whose object is to delay the appearance of fatigue and improve performance during exercise, whilst quickening recovery afterwards. It contains:

Sodium is eliminated through sweat in greater quantities than other electrolytes, and is considered the most critical element of a sports drink because it maintains the osmotic stimulus of thirst, prevents loss of water (avoiding excessive production of urine) and improves the flavour.
As potassium is also lost through sweat, although in lower quantities, its replacement is also important.

Magnesium and calcium facilitate muscular function and the metabolization of energy. Loss of magnesium has also been linked to the appearance of cramp.

Cito-oral sport incorporates a combination of sugars (glucose, saccharose and maltodextrine) which, when taken in the correct proportions can provide an improvement in physical performance and delay fatigue, given that they are the fuel for our most active muscles.
