Adults:
Osteoporosis and calcium deficiencies in general: 1 to 2g of calcium a day (1 or 2 sachets daily) preferably between meals.
Hypocalcaemia and hypophsphatemia caused by renal insufficiency: 2 to 4 sachets a day, with meals, depending on the calcium and phosphate levels of the individual.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT ADMINISTRATION

Pour the contents of 1 or 2 sachets (as appropriate according to indications) into half a glass of water (100ml). Stir until a homogenous solution forms.

COMPOSITION

Per sachet:

Calcium carbonate…………….2500mg (equivalent to 1000mg or 25mmol of Calcium)

Excipients: Sodium saccharin, vanilla essence.

ACTION AND PROPERTIES

Calcium supplement. The high quantity of calcium in each sachet allows the absorption of sufficient calcium with less frequent doses.

INDICATIONS

Treatment and prophylaxis of osteoporosis.

Treatment of chronic hypocalcaemia, chronic hypothyroidism, osteomalacia, rickets.

Prophylaxis of calcium deficiency: patients with an inadequate diet, in general associated with increased demand (pregnant and breast-feeding mothers, the elderly, pre- and post-menopause etc)

Hypocalcaemia and hypophsphatemia caused by renal insufficiency (creatine clearance less than 40ml per min)

POSOLOGY

Adults:

Osteoporosis and calcium deficiencies in general: 1 to 2g of calcium a day (1 or 2 sachets daily) preferably between meals. Hypocalcaemia and hypophsphatemia caused by renal insufficiency: 2 to 4 sachets a day, with meals, depending on the calcium and phosphate levels of the individual.

PRECAUTIONS

In patients with renal insufficiency there is a greater risk of hypocalcaemia. In cases of calcitic renal calculus, this product may aggravate the condition.  In patients who suffer from severe kidney insufficiency, and receive high doses of vitamin D and calcium supplements over a prolonged period, it is recommended to periodically test for calcemia.

If you are pregnant, or believe that you may be so, consult your doctor before taking this medicine. The consumption of medication during pregnancy can be dangerous for the embryo or foetus, and must be monitored by your doctor.

If you are breast feeding, consult your doctor before taking this product.

INCOMPATIBILITIES

None have been described.

INTERACTIONS

Can diminish oral absorption of tetracycline.

Can strengthen the effects of digitalic drugs.

If  used in association with high doses of vitamin D, strict checks for calciuria and calcemia are necessary.

SECONDARY EFFECTS

In exceptional cases, gastro-intestinal upsets, constipation, flatulence, nausea.

High doses in prolonged treatments may produce hypocalcaemia.

INTOXICATIONAND ITS TREATMENT

The following symptoms can be indicative of hypocalcaemia; thirst, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, osteal pain, polyuria, muscle weakness, drowsiness and confusion.

Treatment: Stop administering calcium and vitamin D. Rehydration and the proportionate use of  diuretics, corticosteroids, calcitonin or peritoneal dialysis. These measures can be used individually or in association, depending on the severity of the intoxication.
